Eagle Rock Winery is proud to announce the winners of the wine label competition for their new wine, “Millionaire’s Heritage”.  First Prize will be awarded to Kelly Stabley for his photograph of the Williamsport 4th of July fireworks on Sunday, May 4 at 2 PM by the Mayor of Williamsport, the Honorable Dr. Gabriel Campana as well as Second Prize to Natalie Turri and Third Prize to Steven Godfrey.

Kelly Stabley is a nationally recognized photographer with a love and appreciation for the outdoors that is clearly evident in his work. Kelly was raised in Pine Creek Valley, and spent much of his time there and in the surrounding mountains. In the early 1980's Kelly moved to Los Angeles, California to study photography. Upon completion of his formal education, Kelly embarked on a successful career in commercial photography. In 2004, Kelly and his family returned to the Williamsport area to spend more time with his extended family and friends. Since his return, Kelly has worked as an instructor at Pennsylvania College of Technology teaching black and white and digital photography and continues to work in the field of advertising. Most recently, he has been selected as one of the featured photographers shooting for the Gallery of the American Landscape which will be featured in an upcoming 13 part PBS special.

Kelly’s photograph was chosen by the competition judges, Anna M. Falat and Theodore J. Nutaitis, of the Eagle Rock Winery; Chad Andrews, local artist & printmaker; Thad Meckley, Williamsport author & historian; Ricki Moler, Williamsport fabric artist, and the Honorable Dr. Gabriel Campana, Mayor of the City of Williamsport.

The selections were based on the outstanding talents of the competing artists as well as the historic significance of the works.  Kelly’s photograph, in addition to being a superbly executed piece, also was relevant due to the importance the Susquehanna River has lent to the City of Williamsport, especially during the lumbering era which led to the creation of our many Millionaires.  Additionally the Susquehanna has lent itself to the current annual tradition of the Williamsport 4th of July fireworks which has become one of the major annual events in Lycoming County.  The judges felt the flow of time on the Susquehanna River from the Millionaire’s past to the  current 4th of July spectacular as Kelly has portrayed in his photograph met all of the criteria specified in the call for submissions as well as inspired the new wine  from Eagle Rock Winery, Millionaires’ Heritage.

On Sunday, May 4, Eagles Rock Winery will join thousands across the country as part of a nationwide celebration of the 2008 National Preservation Month in May 2008. Place Maters!" will be the theme of the month-long celebration, being sponsored by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

“Williamsport is a special place,” states local historian Thad Meckley.   “No matter where one moves to in life you can never replace how special the place is where you were born and raised, especially if it is Williamsport.”
